According to Sky Sports, as quoted by the Coventry telegraph, Leeds United are understood to have emerged as a potential destination for 20-year-old midfield dynamo Chuks Aneke, who scored 16-goals whilst on-loan at Gresty Road last season.
Crewe Alexander manager Steve Davies has reportedly already held talks with the player but interest from Elland Road could see him reject their advances in favour of an important part to play in the Cellino revolution.
Despite being relatively unknown to Football League Championship fans, the former Arsenal player would come to Elland Road with a decent background and a good pedigree.
In fact, in 2011, he was once compared by Arsene Wenger to Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure.
"Chuks is a bit like Yaya Toure – he has body power and good technique. We had Yaya here and for me Chuks is a bit similar because he can play behind the striker or in a deeper role as well. We will have to see where he will develop; it is not excluded that in the future he will play deeper in midfield."
Three years later, however, despite an outstanding loan spell at Crewe the midfielder found himself on the ‘starlet’ scrapheap.
Nevertheless, the loan spell at Crewe, in hindsight, could have saved his career from going off the rails as he went on to prove himself as one of the top performers in the League One.
Therefore, in my opinion, it is no surprise that he has been able to win the interest of the top-level Championship club such as Leeds United and he could prove to be one of the bargains of the summer.
