Juve manager phones £20m United target in order to stop Prem move

Reports in Spain suggest Juventus manager Antonio Conte rang Manchester United target Alexis Sanchez in order to prevent a Premier League move.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Antonio Conte, the Juventus coach, has made contact with Alexis Sanchez with a personal phone call in order to try and convince the Chilean international that The Old Lady is the team for him as the 25-year-old looks to decide what’s best for his future.

The report adds that the winger replied he, in principle, is waiting to hear on the official decision of Barcelona and that he has important offers from the Premier League, especially Manchester United, but Conte is prepared to go all out to sign the former Udinese star.

If Sanchez does decide to opt for the Italian club instead of Manchester United, it could also have ramifications on their bid to sign Juventus central-midfielder Arturo Vidal, who has already stated that he would love to play alongside his international team-mate at Juventus.

‘I would love to play alongside Alexis at Juventus,’ said Vidal from the Chilean World Cup training camp. ‘He would be a big boost for the quality we have, and he is also my friend.’

Nevertheless, Manchester United are unlikely to be deterred in their bid to sign the Barcelona midfielder, and Conte’s phone call will not change their stance on snapping the talented winger up.

The decision by Barcelona to sell the winger has been met with indifferent opinions, especially when the reported £20 million valuation came to light, as many still see the number 9 as a key player in the Barcelona team.

Last season in La Liga, he scored 19 goals and got 10 assists for the Catalonian side in 27 starts and seven sub appearances. It has to be said, that is a fantastic production ratio, especially considering he is competing in the company of Neymar and Messi for chances on goal.

He would be an outstanding signing for Manchester United; however, they now have to compete with Juventus in a player tug-of-war.
