Sega and Sony have today announced that they are working together on a Sonic the Hedgehog live action/animated movie.
As to what the plot will be about we can only speculate but hopefully Dr. Robotnik (Eggman) will be the main protagonist and that we get to see some fantastic level locations such as Green Hill Zone, Casino Zone and others from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. There’s no news yet of supporting characters such as Miles ‘Tails’ Prowler or Sonic’s love interest, Amy but as production gets underway we sure to find out more.
Here’s hoping to a lot of comedy, high speed action and attitude that Sonic has exuded since his debut in 1991 and we hope that for once we get a decent video-game based movie as most have been on the, shall we politely say, poor side barring the excellent Wreck It Ralph movie.
Could this spur Nintendo to do a sequel/remake to its 1993 Super Mario Movie (starring the late Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper)? Probably not, as the intense rivalry between these two gaming giants has cooled over the years since Sega went to publishing its games and franchises on all consoles including Nintendo's
