Often dubbed the next ‘Lionel Messi’ for his size and style of play, Hellas Verona’s 21-year-old star Juan Iturbe has caught the attentions of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Amongst those closely watching the Argentine winger is Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, with the Northern Irishman in the midst of bulking up his squad ahead of next season.
Rickie Lambert has already joined the Reds, and Adam Lallana and Alberto Moreno could soon follow after being heavily linked in the media.
One area which needs strengthening, however, is on the wing and that is where Juan Iturbe specialises in dumbfounding his opponents. In 29 Serie A matches last season, he successfully completed 99 dribbles and was fouled an incredible 77 times.
Whilst Liverpool have competition for his signature, they have been given a huge boost in their pursuit as La Liga giants Real Madrid have reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign him.
In a report published by Bernabeu Digital, Hellas Verona’s sporting director Sean Sogliano flew over to the Spanish capital to negotiate with the recent Champions League winners over a €30million deal.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, however, feels that Los Blancos have adequate cover in Ronaldo, Bale, Jese and Di Maria as well as potentially other targets who can all do a job out wide and therefore allegedly declined the offer.
The Hellas Verona sporting director still remains keen on selling the youngster, and interestingly for Liverpool, the report states that a bid closer to €25million should be deemed sufficient for the Italian outfit to sell.
