Report: Real Madrid 'on alert' over striker - potential impact on Arsenal and Liverpool?

Mario Mandzukic Bayern

One club may miss out on a player, but it may mean the other finding it easier to keep hold of theirs.

Mario Mandzukic has confirmed he will leave Bayern Munich this summer, which is said to have put Real Madrid on alert for the striker according to Marca.

The report speculates that they could line up the Croatian international as a potential replacement for the outgoing Alvaro Morata whilst the European Champions are aiming to provide competition for their French forward Karim Benzema.

Such a deal could have implications on Arsenal given they have been linked with both Mandzukic and Morata recently as they look to strengthen in the forward department. Ex-Gunners man Alan Smith said not so long ago that Mandzukic would be the type of player that Arsene Wenger could pursue. If Real are interested and Arsenal wish to sign him, the Gunners are likely to face a tough task in getting their man.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with the Croat – though a move to Stamford Bridge could be unlikely given that the Blues are very close to completing the deal for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa.

Reports have lately linked Real with making a move for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, so it would appear Real are weighing up their options. This report may bring a little bit of comfort to Liverpool fans who may be concerned about losing their star striker, and enhance the odds of the Uruguayan both being at Anfield at the start of the new season, and less chance of him being unsettled.
