Liverpool transfer news, possible reasons for snag in Moreno deal

Alberto Moreno playing for Sevilla

A selection of the latest transfer news involving Liverpool Football Club this Tuesday morning.

Liverpool’s deal to bring Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno to Anfield is not on the brink of completion according to a couple of reports but there are different reasons report to be behind it.

Reports in Spain suggested that Moreno was on the brink of signing for the Reds, with some saying that he was going to fly to Merseyside to complete a deal.

The Daily Mirror’s take on it is that the clubs have yet to agree a fee for the 21-year-old, with manager Brendan Rodgers prepared to look elsewhere instead of meeting the £18 million asking price from the Europa League winners, with Liverpool said to be unhappy at apparent attempts to create an auction.

The report has again stated that Rodgers is an admirer of Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand, someone who the Reds have been linked with prior to the transfer window in January.

The Daily Telegraph says Liverpool are braced for protracted negotiations in the hope that the player’s desire for a move to Anfield can force a breakthrough.

The Telegraph’s report has said that Liverpool are reluctant to leak any news over players heading to Anfield for a medical following what happened in their attempts to try and sign Willian for Anzhi last season – with the forward ultimately ending up at Chelsea after the Russian club alerted the Blues to his availability, despite a fee and terms being agreed with Liverpool.
