Ian Wright: I'd sign Cristiano Ronaldo, but this is Arsenal's most promising player

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has named Cristiano Ronaldo as the one player he would sign for Arsenal if given the chance, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the player they must build around.

The World Cup is almost upon us and the realms of former players turned pundits are already out in Brazil in preparation for the tournament.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright is one of those, and instead of spending all his time on the Copacabana beach, he devoted half an hour of his time to conduct a Twitter Q&A with his followers.

The Gunners' second all-time leading scorer behind Thierry Henry answered questions from ranging on his thoughts on the World Cup, whether Olivier Giroud is cut out for Arsenal, and the best player he has ever played alongside.

Wright revealed the one player he would want the Gunners to sign, if he had the power to bring anyone to the club.

Of course the chances of the Gunners landing the Real Madrid superstar are slim to none, the current Ballon d'Or winner who scored almost twice as many goals this season as Arsenal's strikeforce, leading the club he joined in 2009 to winning the Champions League.

Arsenal famously once came close to signing Ronaldo, with Arsene Wenger revealing the youngster had a week's trial at the club while at Sporting Lisbon, only to see the teenager sign with Manchester United instead.

Wright also answered the question over who he felt was the most promising player at Arsenal at present, and was unequivocal in his response.

Oxlade-Chamberlain currently has a contract at Arsenal until 2018, meaning the Gunners can afford to wait a little while before having to worry about renewing his deal.

Here are a couple of other notable highlights from Wright's Q&A:
