Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund will meet in a friendly before the start of next season.
Liverpool will be given an early test ahead of next season with Borussia Dortmund set to travel to England for a friendly on August 10.
It will also allow Reds fans to see how they’re team are shaping up ahead of the Champions League against one of the sides tipped to win the European competition next season.
The reason this is such an exciting game for all involved is because of the comparisons which have been struck between Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund since Rodgers has been in charge at Anfield.
While there is likely to be some experience on show from both sides, both managers could use the occasion to throw younger players in at the deep end, giving them a chance to show their quality before the new season.
Liverpool have been described as the ‘Dortmund of England’ in the German press because of the socialist way the club has been run in a world where there is so much big money investment in European football.
Liverpool are also well liked in Germany because of their history and the way they have fought their way back to competing in the Premier League from the adversity of incidents like Hillsborough.
German fans also regard Anfield as one of the most intimidating grounds to go to in Europe, with the Kop compared to the famous ‘Wall’ at Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion.
Despite the friendly status, it will be a real test for Rodgers who will be keen to test out tactical approaches and new roles for players that he’ll already be working on for next season.
It can work both ways for either side.
A big win means that team will head into the new season full of confidence and ambition while a defeat could cause doubts over the signings that have been made and the European credentials of a club before the Champions League has started.
