Roberto Martinez’s team just missed out on a Champions League spot last term, finishing fifth just behind Arsenal in the Premier League standings.
Something of a surprise package, the Toffees took full advantage of the top-flight loan system with Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, Manchester City’s Gareth Barry and Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu recruited on temporary deals.
And while question marks remain as to whether any of the trio will return to Goodison Park , Everton are already sounding out alternatives, with Tello earmarked as one potential replacement for the outgoing Deulofeu.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Merseyside club has made contact with Barcelona over the availability of the midfielder, who could arrive at the club on loan next term.
The move comes as Everton emerge as shock contenders in the race to sign Samuel Eto’o.
Tottenham were thought to be keen on recruiting the 33-year-old as cover for Emmanuel Adebayor, but with the Toffees able to offer regular first tem football, the Cameroon star faces a tough choice.
He may yet opted to move away from the Premier League, with Besiktas thought to be keen on recruiting the former Barcelona and Inter Milan goalscorer.
Chelsea, meanwhile, could be set to replace Eto’o with old favourite Didier Drogba, after the Ivorian left Galatasaray over the summer.
Earlier this week Blues manager Jose Mourinho hinted that Drogba could be in line for a Stamford Bridge return.
