Reported Everton target Michy Batshuayi is said to be on a four-man shortlist to replace FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez.
The Colombian international is being tipped to move to Valencia this summer, leaving a huge hole in the Portuguese club’s first-team. But it is a hole that Batshuayi may be tasked with filling.
The young Belgium striker has previously been linked with Porto’s rivals Benfica. But more recently it was suggested that it was a straight fight between Everton and Arsenal for Batshuayi.
The 20-year-old has made no secret of his admiration for the Gunners, but with Roberto Martinez in desperate need of fire-power having seen both Romelu Lukaku and Lacina Traore depart, a move to Goodison Park would have made a lot of sense.
And it still might, if Martinez is genuinely interested and if he moves quickly enough.
Batshuayi scored 23 goals for Standard Liege last season, setting up a further eight. And Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims he is on a four-man list that also includes Jimenez, Guido Carrillo and Valencia.
Everton have worked wonders in the loan market in recent times, but they would have to pay Batshuayi’s reported €8million release-clause if they want a player who is being tipped to become a huge success in the future.
With a contract until the summer of 2018, his current club will be in no rush to sell him unless they receive an offer they literally cannot refuse.
And now with Porto reportedly considering a move, the Toffees may have a decision to make.
