Newcastle confirmed the signing of Tenerife striker Ayoze Perez over the weekend, and the agent of the 20-year-old forward has revealed that Magpies manager Alan Pardew played a big part in convincing the Spaniard to sign - despite interest from some of the biggest La Liga and European sides.
"We have chosen the best option. A four-year contract in a British team, which will allow Ayoze to develop his game. It is a powerful club financially and in terms of structure. They are laying down the foundations of a new project," said agent Olaf Bonales.
"Tenerife have done good business, rejecting offers from clubs like Real Madrid, Valencia, Roma and Porto among others, and making €2 million for a player who has six months left on his contract. There was a verbal agreement with Porto but it was the insistence of Alan Pardew that was so great – and we managed to sit down with the British club to close the deal," he added.
It's been a double arrival on Tyneside in the last few days, as the club have also announced the signing of Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback, with the midfielder becoming one of the few players to make a direct switch between the two rivals - yet the 24-year-old has opened up on his delight at signing for his boyhood club.
"To come to the team I supported as a boy, my hometown team, will be really special for me. It was an opportunity I couldn't let slip," said Colback. "If you asked fans around the world the one thing they'd like to do before they die, it would be to play for the team they support and I've got the chance to do that."
"I've only got good things to say about Sunderland. They gave me my chance and I want to thank the fans and the club for all their support," he continued. "I hope they can understand the chance I've had here to move to my boyhood club. Now I can't wait to pull on the black and white shirt at St. James' Park for the first time."
There could be even more arrivals at St. James' Park, as Serie A giants AC Milan have reportedly offered two players in exchange for Magpies full back Davide Santon. Utility man Kevin Constant and forward M'Baye Niang are the duo in question, as new Milan boss Pippo Inzaghi looks to bring the former Inter defender back to Italy.
