Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has revealed his struggles through injury have been a constant issue for the last six years since his ankle injury suffered on international duty with Netherlands.

"Fitness wise I've been making steps in the last couple of weeks," he said. "Sometimes big steps, sometimes smaller steps but I'm feeling alright. I had a little issue with my groin the last couple of days but I can't even call that an injury.

"I've been playing with pain for the last 5-6 years; every single game. I can't really think of one game that I've started without having a niggle or some pain somewhere so I'm used to that,” he added.

In transfer news, reports suggest Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman could move to United this summer after Roma ‘softened’ their stance on the Netherlands international who had been linked with a move to Old Trafford next January according to his agent last week.

Reports originating in Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Roma are willing to entertain offers around £28 million for the 24-year-old.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail claims Luke Shaw told Southampton he would join United on the final day of the season last month.

According to reports the 18-year-old England fullback is close to confirming a £27 million move to join the Red Devils.

Elsewhere, United remain linked with Germany trio Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mats Hummels and Toni Kroos who are reported targets for Louis van Gaal. However, their national team colleague Thomas Muller also remains in the frame.

United have also been ‘quoted’ a fee of £60 million would bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford from Juventus where he signed in 2012.

Louis van Gaal will ‘assess’ United target Arturo Vidal at the World Cup this summer where he will feature for Chile amid reports the midfielder could be set to leave Juventus this summer.
