Houston Rockets NBA Trade Talk: Chandler Parsons and Jeremy Lin update

Jeremy Lin, Chandler Parsons on Rockets bench

A roundup of the rumours circling the Houston Rockets as the offseason approaches.

The Houston Rockets have been at the centre of trade discussions throughout the buildup to this offseason. After crashing out of the first round of the playoffs, Houston will want to bounce back quickly next season.

The roster will need to be upgraded if they are to go deep in the postseason, and with assets such as Chandler Parsons, Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik at their disposal, they could be set to go after one of the big-name free agents on the market, via a sing-and-trade or an outright signing.

The latest buzz on the Rockets surrounds reports that the team will not pick up Parsons' option for next year, making him a restricted free agent. This will free up some cap space for next year, and Ultimate Rockets speculates that it could be the first of many moves for the Rockets this summer.

Parsons has responded to the news by stating that he would prefer to remain in Houston.

"It's cool. I want to be here. I love Houston," he said. "It's a great situation for me, the city, my teammates, coach McHale, Daryl (Morey), (Rockets CEO) Tad (Brown), all of them are great. Of course I want to be here, we'll see how it works out."

Star shooting guard James Harden also spoke on the Parsons situation, saying the small forward is a major part of the roster.

"He's just key. He's a big piece of our team to our puzzle to where we want to go," the 24-year-old said. "Hopefully Daryl Morey and the front office and Chandler and his team can get everything worked out.”

Thedreamshake.com says that Jeremy Lin could also be shown the door, and that the long-running Omer Asik trade saga could also come to an end this offseason. Both carry huge expiring deals, and could be shipped to a team looking to rebuild. Possible destinations could be Minnesota - in a package for Kevin Love - or Atlanta in exchange for Al Horford or Paul Millsap.

Finally, there could be trouble ahead for former Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard. The center has been hit with allegations of having a relationship with an underage girl. The rumours started when a woman name Debbie posted photos allegedly showing Howard with her in a hotel room.
