Erik Lamela's Tottenham nightmare could be set to continue for another season after Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis dismissed rumours that the Serie A side could be interested in signing the Argentinian.
The skillful attacker has been linked with a move to Naples in recent weeks having struggled to find his feet in the rigours of the Premier League.
Unfortunately for Lamela the list of his potential suitors is small and after De Laurentiis dismissed the possibility of him signing for Napoli, Spurs could find it very difficult to recoup any of the £26m plus add-ons that they paid AS Roma for his services.
De Laurentiis told Italian football website Republicca: "Rumours about our interest in him [Lamela] are only agent’s games.
“I wanted him a year ago but they didn’t allow the deal. Roma offered us [Dani] Osvaldo instead. Now, with [Rafael] Benítez, we don’t need Lamela anymore.”
South Americans have frequently found it difficult to settle into life in England, anyone remember Juan Sebastián Verón? 22-year-old Lamela was not helped by the enormous fee that made him the most expensive player in Tottenham's history, also the fact he spoke very little English made him a lonely figure at White Hart Lane.
He suffered a niggling back injury that has troubled him for much of the season; that along with poor displays when he has been given a change have limited him to only 9 appearances for London club all season.
Hopefully Lamela does not read the newspapers (unlikely considering he doesn't speak English) because in April the Daily Telegraph labeled him number 2 in the "10 worst signings of the season".
