€50m United target in contact with surprise La Liga club

Arturo Vidal

Atletico Madrid have reportedly contacted the agent of Manchester United target Arturo Vidal.

Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal has become a top target for a number of European clubs this season after a dynamic campaign in Italy’s top flight.

The Chilean international proved to be one of the world’s best box-to-box midfielders, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further five in 28 Serie A starts.

It wasn’t just his attacking play which stood out, as defensively, his total of 130 tackles is 46 higher than Juventus’ next best – former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move with both midfielders this summer, as new boss Louis Van Gaal attempts to rectify United’s renowned midfield problem.

Both players, however, are so influential in Turin that the Italian champions have placed huge asking prices on their heads in a bid to warn off any interest. In Vidal’s case, it would take an offer of at least €50million just to start the negotiations.

With Man United’s quoted transfer budget between £150million and £200million, they could perhaps go all out for his signature, though they are not alone in making the Chilean a top target.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked, but according to recent reports coming out of Spain, much to the surprise of most Atletico Madrid have declared their interest.

In a report from by the Spanish publication AS, Los Rojiblancos have been in touch with Arturo Vidal’s agent as boss Diego Simeone sees him alongside the experienced Tiago as the future midfield enforcer at the Vicente Calderon stadium.

Two years ago, trading Juventus for Atletico Madrid might be seen as absurd, but under the influence of boss Diego Simeone, the recent La Liga winners are now up there with the very best in Europe and represent a fine opportunity.

There is no doubt that such an operation would be complicated to say the least, but with Atletico Madrid set for a huge cash windfall as a result of the likely departures of Filipe Luis and Diego Costa, the money is there to tempt Juventus and Arturo Vidal into doing a deal.
