Arsenal are interested in French duo Clement Grenier and Morgan Schneiderlin according to newspaper L’Equipe.
It is not the first time the players have been linked with a possible switch to the Emirates. But the latest report claims Arsene Wenger wants both players as he looks to build on the Gunners’ FA Cup success.
Grenier was recently ruled out of the World Cup with a groin injury, while Southampton’s Schneiderlin was called up following the double blow of losing the Lyon midfielder and Franck Ribery for the tournament.
The report is not exactly rife with detail, simply claiming Wenger likes the players. But what would they bring to the Gunners if they were to arrive.
They would certainly reenergise their midfield, Schneiderlin operating predominantly in a defensive midfield role while Grenier likes to get forward.
The latter scored seven goals and provided eight assists last season, which is not exactly outstanding form. But he would add another option to Wenger’s midfield and increase the goal-threat from that area.
Schneiderlin is just one of a number of Southampton players linked with a summer exit, but he did not exactly quash the previous links with Arsenal earlier this year when he said, “ It’s my dream to one day play in a great club, so why not?”
That said, with the players currently at Wenger’s disposal in midfield, it would be a surprise if he moved for both Frenchmen, especially when he has other positions in more desperate need of strengthening.
