Liverpool have been dealt a blow in terms of possible incoming transfers, with Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri ruling out a summer move.
In an interview published by Swiss newspaper Blick, the 22-year-old revealed that he has no intention of going anywhere.
Shaqiri has been heavily linked with Liverpool, who appear to be attempting to get the majority of their transfer business done early. But during a special event at which he spoke to a reported 600 young fans, he was asked, “Where will you play next season?”
To which he replied, “Still at Bayern Munich!”
The player was tipped to make a £15million move to Anfield this summer, in what would have been an outstanding piece of business on the part of Brendan Rodgers.
With just two years left on his remaining deal, and with game-time not as regular as he would have hoped for the German giants, it was a rumour that made sense.
But it now appears he has ruled out any such move, just as Liverpool are linked with deals for the likes of Emre Can and Alberto Moreno.
Shaqiri made just 17 Bundesliga appearances last season, scoring six goals and providing two assists in that time. His strike-rate saw him score a goal every 130 minutes and with regular game-time there is no doubt he would shine alongside the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.
But if his latest comment proves to be true, it looks like he wants to stay with Pep Guardiola’s side...at least for now.
