Reina And Liverpool Warm Up

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Liverpool

Liverpool and Napoli are reportedly at something of an impasse when it comes to agreeing a permanent transfer fee for Pepe Reina.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been on loan in Serie A all season, but the Liverpool Echo claims the two clubs are struggling to iron out a deal that would see him move to Italy permanently.

Reina moved on almost as soon as Simon Mignolet arrived from Sunderland last summer. But despite starring for Rafa Benitez’s side, the player’s agent Manuel Garcia Quilon is unsure if the player will remain at Napoli beyond the summer.

“It’s very difficult for Pepe to remain at Napoli,” Quilon said.

“From June 30, he will return to Liverpool because they want to maximise his sale, and Napoli are not willing to spend what is required.”

Reina is now 31 and his previously indicated that his time at the Reds is coming to an end. But it remains to be seen if he will return to the side he has served so well for the last nine months.

In other news, Liverpool’s £4million signing Rickie Lambert has praised his former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Lambert completed his move to Anfield last week, but in quotes published by ESPN the England international revealed what he had learned from the Argentine.

“He taught me how to be a different kind of player,” Lambert said, “and I think that’s helping now.

“I never really got taught to be a striker in the first place and then I never got taught to be a lone striker.”

Lambert revealed that his former Southampton boss changed that, and Liverpool look set to benefit after bringing the front-man in for what could prove to be a bargain deal.
