Reported Manchester United target Enzo Perez has commented on his future, with speculation continuing that he could leave Benfica this summer.
The 27-year-old midfielder enjoyed a fantastic season in Portugal as he played a significant role in his side’s Primeira Liga triumph. But despite only recently agreeing a contract extension, rumours abound that he could be on his way.
United are one of the clubs most heavily linked with the Argentine. But Valencia have also been suggested as a possible destination, the Spanish side seemingly linked with half the players currently plying their trade in Portugal.
And now the player himself has had his say, although his comments have not exactly cleared things up.
In an interview published by A Bola, Perez is quoted as saying, “I have a contract until 2018, but we do not know what happens in football. Nor do I know yet where I will play next season.”
Far from committing his future to Benfica, it appears the reported United target is fully aware of the speculation surrounding him and the possible interest from a whole host of clubs.
He went on to hint at a possible farewell when he said, "Lisbon is a very beautiful and very peaceful city. It was nice to have enjoyed over the years."
Perez would considerably improve Luis van Gaal’s midfield, playing in a defensive-minded role that would instantly shore up a midfield that has been far too porous in recent campaigns.
The player made 46 appearances for Benfica last season, scoring five goals and setting up a further seven.
And while he may not be the star-name United fans have grown accustomed to reading about in the gossip columns, he could be exactly what they need. That said, with a reported release-clause of €30million, he would not come cheap.
