In what is expected to be one of the most sensational transfers this summer, Cesc Fabregas is reportedly close to joining Chelsea according to the Spanish newspaper Diario Sport.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club all summer, with Barcelona supporters seemingly content on seeing him return to the Premier League.
It’s a strange stance from the Nou Camp supporters, as Fabregas’ eight goals and 13 assists in 28 La Liga starts represents the finest season of his career.
Despite Arsenal having first option on his signature, it appears the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has turned his back on potentially signing the star as the Frenchman prefers to finance other areas of his team.
Manchester United and Manchester City are also reportedly in the frame to sign him, but with both clubs already boasting Spanish internationals who play in similar positions, it is Chelsea who have jumped to the front of the queue.
Boss Jose Mourinho has admitted his interest, and after selling David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for a reported £50million, it is expected that a chunk of that money will be used to sign the former Arsenal star.
Barcelona-based publication Diario Sport claim that Chelsea’s €33million offer plus another €3million in variables is currently in the Barcelona office, and after the player has allegedly given the OK to join the Blues, only an acceptance from the Catalans is what stands in the way of the deal being completed.
His potential arrival at Stamford Bridge has already gotten a number of Chelsea stars talking, with both Cesar Azpilicueta and Fernando Torres giving their approval by claiming Fabregas has qualities like no other currently in West London.
The Barcelona La Masia product will feel right at home in the Premier League, as his experience during his eight-year spell at Arsenal has ultimately defined him as the footballer he is today.
