€35m Arsenal-linked striker close to joining Valencia, Chelsea star next target

Arsenal-linked Jackson Martinez is reportedly on the verge of joining Valencia, and they have identified Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku as a strike-partner.

Following the official takeover by Singapore businessman Peter Lim, Valencia have become one of the wealthiest clubs in Spain and are intent on building a new super force this summer.

After recent years of mid-table struggles, the primary aim is to return the club to the Champions League, and the new owner has pinpointed a number of top players such as Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and Benfica duo Rodrigo and Enzo Perez to help him in his quest.

Another one of those is the €35million acquisition of Porto striker Jackson Martinez, a player who has been heavily linked with an exit for much of last season, with Arsenal said to have shown an interest.

The Gunners were desperate to add a striker during the January transfer window, and the Colombian international was heavily linked with a move to the Gunners, although his hefty price-tag remained a key stumbling block.

The 27-year-old may well have remained a player on Arsenal supporters’ wishlists, although this summer it appears Arsene Wenger is looking at cheaper alternatives, with QPR striker Loic Remy among the favourites to move to the Emirates.

According to the Valencia newspaper Superdeporte, Lim is on the verge of completing a deal for the Porto striker, with the Portuguese outfit allegedly advising their boss Julen Lopetegui to start looking for a replacement.

Should the Mestalla outfit seal a deal for Martinez over the next week, they are not set to stop there, as Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has been identified as his ideal partner.

The Belgian international recently declared his intentions of leaving the Blues, and a new challenge in La Liga may interest the 21-year-old.

In a separate article published by Superdeporte, Peter Lim revealed his interest in the striker.

“With Paco Alcacer, Rodrigo, Lukaku and Jackson we will have one of the best strike forces in the world.” He told 97.7 Radio.

Lukaku returned to Chelsea this summer after a season-long loan spell at Everton where he scored 15 Premier League goals in 31 appearances.

Despite his excellent form and proven ability in England, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho appears to have not been won over and his intentions appear to be to move the youngster on this summer.
