1) Tim Sherwood favourite for West Bromwich Albion job, but Southampton are also interested
The Express are reporting that Tim Sherwood is set to take over at West Bromwich Albion, despite interest from Southampton.
Both Baggies and Saints are looking to appoint a new manager, with the managerial position at both clubs currently vacant, but West Brom appear to be winning the race for Sherwood.
Sherwood, who took charge at Tottenham for the second part of last season, is now at the top of Albion’s shortlist after successful talks with the club’s hierarchy this week.
2) Diego Lugano says Luis Suarez is unique
West Brom centre-back Diego Lugano says that Luis Suarez is a unique talent, as the two train together for Uruguay before the upcoming World Cup.
Uruguay have been drawn in the same group as England in Brazil and it is thought that the form of Suarez will be pivotal for their chances.
And Lugano was effusive in his praise for his country’s key man, revealing the secret as to why he is such a special talent.
"That character, that fire inside, is what makes Suarez different," he told the Daily Express.
"You can have many skills but if you do not have that sacred fire inside, something that you cannot be trained to have, or get at the gym, or take vitamins for, then you will never have it.
"Suarez has it and it makes him different. It makes him a winner. With his hunger for glory, that sacred fire, there are not many like Suarez. He fights for every ball, does not give up.
"Suarez is a good team-mate, a good friend. He has attributes that are beyond mere football qualities. We, his team-mates, see them. We are grateful for the way that he is.
"He defends his team-mates on the pitch and, as captain of the team, it makes me proud to have a player of that character and that fire."
3) West Brom are hoping to sign Steve Sidwell
West Brom are hoping to bring Steve Sidwell to the club after he confirmed his departure from Fulham on Twitter.
4) Kevin McDonald backs Richard Stearman’s new deal
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ player of the season, Kevin McDonald, has backed the club’s offer of a new deal to Richard Stearman.
Stearman has been at Wolves for the past six years and looks set to extend his stay at Molineux for even longer, much to his teammate’s approval.
“‘Stears’ was fantastic this season, from start to finish,” said McDonald.
“Some people have their doubts about ‘Stears’ but I don’t know why because from what I’ve seen, he showed excellent form all the way through, like all the defence did.”
5) Jurgen Klinsmann issues Brad Guzan a World Cup warning
USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann has issued a warning about his side making mistakes in Brazil.
Guzan, who is expected to play in the team’s upcoming friendly against Nigeria, is part of the American side and will have to consider his manager’s words if he is to play in Brazil.
“We need games that really keep us on our toes,” said Klinsmann.
“We need games, especially for our backline that challenges them not to lose focus and concentration not even for one moment in our game.
“Otherwise you get punished and that costs you badly, especially when you go into Brazil.
“Mistakes will happen also in Brazil. But we’ll just reduce them as much as possible.
“We cannot win this World Cup, because we are not at that level yet. ”
