Confirmed: Argentina line-up for Slovenia friendly – Former Arsenal target starts

One of the favourites for the World Cup, Argentina, will be eyeing a comprehensive victory tonight.

Argentina will be looking to continue their preparations for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil with victory over Slovenia tonight.

Alejandro Sabella’s side will head to their neighbouring country as one of the favourites to win the tournament.

The 1986 World Cup winners are one of the strongest teams and have an enviable attacking unit that boasts of Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain (who was linked with a move to Arsenal last summer) among others.

The Argentines will head into tonight’s encounter against their European rivals in La Plata on the back of a 3-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in Buenos Aires. Rodrigo Palacio, Javier Mascherano and Maxi Rodriguez were on target for Argentina in that match, while Lionel Messi was denied by the frame of the goal.

However, the hosts could have added more to their tally had they been more clinical in front of goal. Sabella and his players will be eager to make amends and register a far more comprehensive victory over Slovenia, who are underdogs for tonight’s match and are not expected to pull off a shock.

Here is how Argentina will line up against Slovenia tonight:

Argentina XI: Sergio Romero, Hugo Campagnaro, Marcos Rojo, Federico Fernandez, Jose Maria Basanta, Lucas Biglia, Enzo Perez, Augusto Fernandez, Gonzalo Higuain, Maxi Rodriguez, Ezequiel Lavezzi
