Tom McDermott has suggested Manchester United are ready to make a splash in the transfer market, with the club contacting a number of potential targets.
Football journalist Tom McDermott has today taken to Twitter, suggesting that Manchester United’s transfer activity could step up a gear or two in the coming few days.
Allegedly, the Red Devils are speaking to FC Dnipro midfielder Yevhen Konoplyanka's representatives this week, while they remain “very confident” of completing a deal for Southampton youngster Luke Shaw.
#mufc have been speaking to Yevhen Konoplyanka's representatives this week. They are still very confident re Shaw as well.— Tom McDermott (@FootballMcD) June 7, 2014
It seems as though Van Gaal is eager to continue his philosophy of total football at Man United and by doing so he is planning substantial improvements in all areas of the playing staff.
McDermott paid particular interest to Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez in these tweets, with his comments insinuating the Dutchman’s interest in the Chilean forward. With Angel Di Maria also mentioned, the following claim is likely to excite a number of the Old Trafford faithful:
I am led to believe that contact has been made with a number of clubs and players. May explain why Di Maria & Sanchez linked.— Tom McDermott (@FootballMcD) June 7, 2014
Reports re Sanchez support my earlier tweets. LVG looking for a genuine goal threat from wide areas it would appear.— Tom McDermott (@FootballMcD) June 7, 2014
Apparently, Van Gaal “is looking for a genuine goal threat from wide areas," and, while Sanchez fits this remit, so do a number of the club’s other rumoured targets.
Nonetheless, exciting times appear to be ahead for United fans if there is any truth in this latest speculation. The supporters are anticipating a summer of heavy spending, and this could be about to begin.
