On this day: Arsenal's Fellaini bid and Chelsea open talks with Cavani

News stories about Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool feature.

The World Cup has moved a step closer as fans start to get very excited about the tournament starting in Brazil next week.

The fact the tournament is now under one week away means teams will be scrambling to get transfer deals done. Liverpool have already moved to secure two players but what other deals will fans be talking about before Thursday next week?

We’ve taken a look at the stories which were grabbing the headlines on this day last year.

‘Arsenal launch Fellaini bid’

The Gunners were reported to be making a £22 million approach for then Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

The Belgian had a standout season for the Toffees leading into the summer, which sparked speculation over several high profile transfers.

He eventually moved to Manchester United on the final day of the transfer window and the words ‘dodged a bullet’ come to mind for Arsenal, as he flopped in his first season at United.

‘Chelsea open talks with Cavani’

The Daily Mail suggested that Chelsea had opened talks with Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani over a move to Stamford Bridge.

Cavani has been a long term target for the club, as Jose Mourinho mulled over options to improve his team for his second spell in charge of the Blues.

The news was all to no end, as the Napoli striker got drawn into the big money offer that was made by Ligue One giants Paris Saint-Germain.

‘Tevez on Liverpool’s shopping list’

The Mirror claimed former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez was a candidate to replace Luis Suarez at Liverpool.

It was around this time last year that speculation over Suarez’ future started to gather pace, as Real Madrid circled the striker like a shark.

However, the personal terms were too expensive for the Anfield side and Tevez moved to Juventus in Serie A, winning the title in his first season with the club.
