Sandro will cost £15m but Spurs shouldn't sell him

Tottenham will demand £15 million for Brazilian midfielder Sandro but Spurs should ensure that the man nicknamed 'the Beast' stays at the club.

Napoli are chasing the Brazilian and are keen to bolster their midfield with the arrival of Sandro whose defensive capabilities would shore up any side.

They have had a bid of around £9 million rejected by Tottenham Hotspur who are asking for almost double that amount.

Mauricio Pochettino will be assessing his new squad and will be likely to make several changes to the first-team squad this summer but Sandro must be retained.

Firstly, 'the Beast' is a fan-favourite at Spurs and his sale would leave most fans disappointed, as he is a great character to have around the team and he has rapidly improved in his four years in North London.

Secondly, the Lilywhites do have plenty of options in midfield but none better defensively than Sandro who is excellent at breaking the play up and starting moves from inside his own half.

The 25-year-old only made 17 appearances last year, but when called upon was solid defensively as seen in the table above.

He made more blocks than any other Spurs midfielder per appearance, and lost possession less that any of his teammates too.

Only Moussa Dembele won more headers than Sandro, who is clearly a key asset to the Tottenham midfield.

Pochettino will need Sandro in his side to break play up and protect the back four, as Morgan Schneiderlin did so effectively at Southampton under the Argentine manager.

The sale of the Brazilian would be huge loss, and despite a large number of options in the middle of the park, Sandro offers so much more defensively than most.
