Bolton Wanderers legend Kevin Davies has been discussing Diego Costa's likely transfer to Chelsea with Talksport, and he more than likes what he has seen of the Spanish striker.
Costa's efforts saw him likened to Blues favourite Didier Drogba, and came at a time when the entire Chelsea frontline was failing to fire Jose Mourinho's side onwards in their own trophy hunt.
The Chelsea interest was well documented, and after meeting the player's £32 million release clause recently, it looks like he'll be set to arrive at Stamford Bridge after the World Cup.
It's a perfect match says Davies, who won one England cap in his career.
“Costa is definitely what Chelsea need,” Davies said. “Jose knew where his problems were last season.
“It’s a fantastic signing for them. He was outstanding for Atletico Madrid last season and helped them win La Liga and reach the Champions League final.
“He looks a spiky character so we will all look forward to him playing in the Premier League.”
Davies, who is at Preston North End nowadays, should know a thing or two about unsettling Premier League defences, frequently bullying centre backs into mistakes and often ending up the Premier League player with the most fouls.
When asked whether Costa is likely to foul as much as the Sheffield born 37-year-old, Davies laughed it off: "No chance [on matching Davies for fouling]! He'll certainly score more though."
Costa is currently battling to be fit for Spain's World Cup opener with the Netherlands.
