Chelsea left-back Cesar Azpilicueta has had his say on the Cesc Fabregas transfer saga by suggesting that the Barcelona man would be welcome at Stamford Bridge.
The Barcelona midfielder has dominated the headlines over the past few days as it has become apparent that his Nou Camp adventure is coming to an end this summer.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City have been linked with Fabregas, but it appears that it is Chelsea who are leading the race for his signature with a reported transfer fee of €33 million (£27m) being mentioned in the media.
The Blues’ boss, Jose Mourinho, added to those claims by admitting his interest, and Fabregas’ possible arrival at Stamford Bridge has been welcomed by Chelsea star Azpilicueta.
'At the moment nothing is official, he’s a Barca player. What I can say about what I know is that he’s a great midfielder, with a lot of experience in the Premier League. Great players are always welcome at big clubs', he said, quoted by AS.
Azpilicueta went on to say that his Spain international teammate’s ability is special, and that his particular style of play currently doesn’t exist at the club.
'I personally believe he is special; few teams have that type of player, a midfielder that arrives in the box and also has great vision', he said. 'The numbers prove it. He adapts well to various positions. Right now we don’t have a player like that at Chelsea'.
Despite Barcelona’s wishes to sell Fabregas this summer, the 27-year-old endured his finest season of his career this campaign as he scored 21 goals in 28 La Liga starts.
The former Arsenal man has plenty of experience in England, as he made 212 Premier League appearances for the Gunners during an eight-year spell.
