Atlanta Hawks NBA Trade Talk: Featuring Omer Asik, Kevin Love, Draft options

A round-up of NBA rumor relating to the Atlanta Hawks.

Atlanta edged into the play-offs in eighth spot this season, by virtue of winning just one game more than the Knicks.

They performed credibly, taking number one seed in the Eastern Conference the Pacers to a Game 7.

So can they expect a busy off-season in hope of making further strides? Here is a look at the speculation surrounding the Hawks.

Actively pursuing Omer Asik?

Seven foot Turk, Omer Asik is on the trade block in Houston as the Rockets try to make salary room for big-name additions. The 27-year-old failed to gel alongside Dwight Howard and a fresh start would be best for him at this point.

One team who have been linked with actively pursuing Asik is Atlanta with reports dating back even a month and interest dating back to last year. Houston are said to want three draft picks, while Atlanta are claimed to be ready to send Paul Millsap to the Rockets in exchange instead.

The LA Lakers are the latest team to be linked with Asik however, with a sign-and-trade deal with Pau Gasol possible, who would be a better fit alongside Howard.

What can they offer for Kevin Love?

Kevin Love is the player they all want, with the Timberwolves three time NBA All-Star willing to move on from Minnesota. He has one year remaining on his deal which means a trade is likely despite the Timberwolves' protestations in public.

Love wants to join a play-off team, which technically Atlanta are, needing a big name to push them to the next level. Competition is fierce for his signature however, with Boston, Chicago, Golden State and the Rockets all strong contenders.

Atlanta are outsiders at this point, and would have to trade up from number 15 in the NBA Draft to put together a more enticing package. To even tempt them they would have to offer up Al Horford, but considering his injury issues, Minnesota are likely to pass.

Draft options

At number 15, much depends for Atlanta on the board before them, so it will be necessary to multiple plans of action. Fox Sports cite Kentucky's James Young as a likely pick, with several pundits mock drafts also sending him to the Hawks. Another popular option is Croatian 20-year-old Dario Saric who is very highly rated and will improve the Hawks' defense. The Hawks were even rumored to have travelled to Europe to scout him in recent months.
