1) Yohan Cabaye wants Hatem Ben Arfa to join him at Paris Saint-Germain
Former Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has said that he wants his ex-team-mate, Hatem Ben Arfa, to join him in France.
Cabaye left St James’ Park for PSG in January and now he wants Ben Arfa to follow suit and join him in France’s capital.
He said to the Guardian: “For me, Hatem remains an extraordinary player with enormous quality.
“He’s one of the highest quality players I’ve played with. He will bounce back with a new club. If he comes back home, it will be good for French football.”
2) Newcastle United are hoping to sign Siem De Jong
Newcastle United are hoping to secure the signature of Ajax midfielder Siem De Jong, reports the Sunderland Echo.
Alan Pardew is known to want a number of additions as he looks to strengthen his side for next campaign and he has identified the Dutch international as one of his main targets.
De Jong, the older brother of Luuk, who spent a part of last campaign on loan at Newcastle, has admitted he is uncertain on his future and also called the Toon Army a ‘great club’ to further heighten speculation.
3) Sunderland fans have voted Jozy Altidore as their biggest flop of last season
Jozy Altidore won the unwanted award of being the club’s biggest disappointment during the course of last campaign, in a poll in the Sunderland Echo.
Altidore dominated the vote after his woeful campaign after being brought in by Paulo Di Canio last summer.
The American set the Black Cats back £6.5 million, but has looked devoid of quality when on the field this season and he may well be set for a swift-exit from the club.
4) Emanuele Giaccherini wants to stay at Sunderland… but only for the money
Emanuele Giaccherini is set to stay and fight for his place in the Sunderland team, but only because he is getting paid so much by the club.
The Italian international has failed to live up to expectations in his first season in England and has been linked with an exit from the Stadium of Light, with Napoli keen to sign him.
But he revealed that he is loathed to leave Sunderland as clubs in Italy won’t be able to match his wages.
"Napoli are an important team, among the best in Italy. But I have a high salary - I do not know if in Italy they will be able to match what I earn in England.
"I am happy at Sunderland, I have three years on my contract and I will stay here."
5) Middlesbrough miss out on Lewis Grabban
Middlesbrough target Lewis Grabban has opted to move to Norwich City instead of Aitor Karanka’s side.
‘Boro had hoped to do deal a with Bournemouth for their top scorer last season, but he signed for Norwich today leaving the club still searching for a striker who can solve their goalscoring problems.
