Liverpool are prepared to abandon their interest in Southampton’s Adam Lallana and turn to Benfica’s Lazar Markovic according to a report in the Daily Mirror.

The Mirror says Liverpool are being put off by the asking price for Lallana. The Reds are said to have made a £25 million bid for the 26-year-old but manager Brendan Rodgers may turn to the 20-year-old Serbian who is said to be available for a similar price.

The Reds are also said to be relaxed over the future of Luis Suarez despite reports from Marca that Real Madrid are starting to express interest in the Uruguayan forward.

The club has received no indications that Suarez wants to leave Merseyside after scoring 31 goals in the Premier League last season to help the club back into the Champions League.

Several newspapers are reporting this morning that Liverpool are closing in on Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can.

The Reds have activated a release clause that is close to £10 million with talks ongoing, and the club are looking to complete the deal very soon.

Bayer Leverkusen’s chief executive Michael Shade is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “Until Tuesday it [Liverpool’s bid] was a rumour. Now I can confirm that an official offer from Liverpool has been received by mail.”

Tottenham are going to try and hijack Liverpool’s bid for Alberto Moreno according to the Daily Mail, with Spurs trying to offload striker Roberto Soldado along with Etienne Capoue as part of the deal for the Sevilla left-back.

Liverpool are believed to have submitted a £20 million bid for the 21-year-old, and it is said they won’t be held to ransom or get involved in an auction for the player.

There were reports from Spain earlier in the week that a deal for Moreno was close to completion.
