Argentine Luis Farina keen to replace £30m Manchester United target Enzo Perez

Luis Farina has told Benfica he can replace Enzo Perez, linked to both Manchester United and Valencia.

Enzo Perez is one of the names prominently linked with Manchester United this week, with the Argentine also attracting interest from Valencia.

The Benfica midfielder is rated as highly as £30 million, and can play in both central midfield and on the right.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claimed this week that the Red Devils were waiting on his confirmation as part of Argentina's World Cup squad, in the knowledge he will be more likely to earn a work permit as a result.

Benfica have always been a selling club if the price is right, and one of their own players is anticipating the inevitable, and staking his claim to replace Perez.

Argentine prospect Luis Farina, 23, was bought by Benfica last summer, but loaned to UAE side Banyas to get regular football under his belt.

Now the midfielder says he is more than ready to make his mark in the Benfica first team, eyeing Perez's departure as his big opportunity.

He told O Jogo on Thursday in an article headline 'I'm an alternative to Enzo Perez': "I'd be delighted. It is a debt I have with myself, because I could not even play an official match for Benfica.

"Hopefully this can happen in the next year, to demonstrate that I am up to the demands of such a big club as Benfica.

"It is my dream to play in the Champions League and Portuguese Leaguewith Benfica. It would be very good, and thus I could grow professionally. Furthermore, the pressure will be the responsibility because the club had a big season. They won titles and so we have to maintain that level."

Benfica have always found that whenever a key player leaves, another steps up and makes a name for themselves.

Farina is determined to be the next in line, and who knows, a Premier League club may come calling for him too in the future.
