Arsenal star Ramsey thanks Podolski for helping him improve

Arsenal's recently crowned Player of the Season, Aaron Ramsey, may not have reached his dizzying goal-scoring heights had it not been for Poldi.

Training ground lessons conducted by strike master Lukas Podolski may be the root cause of Aaron Ramsey's net-busting form last season, as explained by the Welsh midfielder on his official social media network last night, Wednesday.

The Arsenal star, who was recently awarded the club's Player of the Year prize, came-of-age in the 2013-14 campaign and his injury was a fundamental reason in the Gunners' inability to match their early season prowess throughout the whole year.

Had he not suffered injury (hamstring in November, 2013, thigh muscle in December and then hip/thigh in April, 2014), then the box-to-box sensation would have given Yaya Toure a rampaging run for his money as the Premier League's most adept, all-action midfielder.

Podolski Arsenal 41 28.59 46.3% 19.5% 8 20 1,172

Podolski is widely revered as Arsenal's deadliest finisher due to his hammer-like left-footed rockets yet he is statistically comparable to Ramsey.

This perfectly demonstrates how apt Ramsey's tribute is: "All the shooting lessons you gave me paid off! Thanks Poldi!"

Ramsey was able to unleash more shots throughout the entire 38-game season as he made more appearances and therefore completed more Premier League match minutes than the German international.

However, it is Podolski who was more prolific while he was on the pitch as he attempted a shot once every 28 minutes.

While Podolski unleashed more efforts on goal, it was actually Ramsey who was the more accurate of the two - with 54% hitting the target.

Astonishingly, one in five of his efforts resulted in a goal (20%), an almost identical statistic to Podolski (19.5%).

Ramsey also returned a goal once every 176 minutes, compared to Lukas, who celebrated a successful strike every 146 minutes he was on the field.

When exactly did these shooting lessons occur?

The likelihood is that goal-scoring is a skill Ramsey had been working on over the course of last summer, as Ramsey's numbers from the same key areas in past seasons are woeful when compared to his most recent term. Last year, instead of scoring once with every five shots, it took almost 50 shots to score just once.
