Arsenal will not be pursuing the signature of former midfielder Cesc Fabregas. The Barcelona midfielder has been told he can leave the club this summer, as they try to release funds to boost their defensive options. However despite Arsenal having a buy-back option for the player they are not said to want him at the club as they have enough options in midfield.
Chelsea are now the favourites to sign him this summer after a reported £35 million bid is being submitted for his services - a move which would leave the Arsenal faithful very upset, to say the least.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has a medial knee ligament injury suffered on international duty. The Arsenal midfielder was featuring for England against Ecuador last night. The Ox, who suffered a knee injury at the start of the season, is expected to be out for a minimum of two weeks - but the likelihood is he will be out for longer.
His World Cup place is now in doubt although Roy Hodgson might just decide to keep hold of him and risk it.
Arsenal could have signed Michael Bradley in January, but instead opted for Swedish midfielder Kim Kallstrom.
Bradley's dad Bob, manager at Norwegian side Stabaek, said:
“In January, Arsenal [were] looking to add a midfielder, and they chose Kim Kallstrom. Kim Kallstrom's not a bad player, but I think Michael feels pretty strongly that he’s better, and so Arsene Wenger must not feel that way, and Ivan Gazidis must not feel that way. So sometimes, no matter what you do, you don’t get the respect you think you deserve.”
KV Mechelen have confirmed they are waiting for a deal to sign Deyan Iliev from the club. Their technical director Fi Vanhoof stated:
"We have an agreement for three seasons."
