£35m Fabregas to Chelsea 'conversations taking place' but 'no deal yet'

Guillem Balague has confirmed on Twitter that Chelsea are in talks for Cesc Fabregas of Barcelona.

Yesterday saw rumours persist that Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas would be on his way to Chelsea as a replacement for New York bound Frank Lampard.

The former Arsenal player has reportedly been put on the market for £35 million and is said keen on a return to Premier League football.

Arsenal have a first refusal option while Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United have also been credited with interest in the Spanish international.

But Chelsea have taken the lead in his pursuit - and the rumours took a new twist last night.

Gerard Pique, Cesc's Barcelona and Spain team-mate, was heard on a microphone reportedly telling Vicente Del Bosque that a deal was done for the star to head to Stamford Bridge for £33 million.

It was a tedious link, he could have been talking about anyone, but the Spanish press have seized upon it and run the story as a revelation.

But SkySports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has made it clear no deal has occurred. He took to Twitter to confirm Chelsea are in talks with Barca about his signature - but as yet no deal was sealed for his services.

Now Balague is rarely wrong on such matters, so Chelsea are yet to complete a deal for the player. But if talks are ongoing Jose Mourinho is ready to bring in a massive improvement to the squad.
