Reports in Spain are suggesting that Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa is edging closer to a ground-breaking move to Chelsea.
The Brazilian-born striker is thought of as the Blues leading summer target, with boss Jose Mourinho desperate to add goals to his attack next season.
Costa, a newly-capped controversial Spanish international, supplies more than just goals as he bullies defenders and creates space for his fellow teammates, the ideal striker for Mourinho’s system.
Atletico Madrid know how much they would miss him if he left, but Diego Simeone’s men aren’t taking any risks as according to the Spanish paper AS, Los Rojiblancos have already drawn up a list of five possible replacements – including Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo:
The first on the list is Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, who spent last season on loan at fellow Premier League side Everton.
His pace, power and bravery is exactly the sort of traits Diego Simeone wants in Madrid, and the 21-year-old striker could be allowed to leave on loan once more if Chelsea land Diego Costa.
The former Sevilla striker was close to joining Atletico Madrid last summer, but they were pipped by Manchester City as the Citizens were willing to spend big on the 28-year-old.
Negredo has had a solid debut season in the Premier League, scoring nine goals in 32 appearances.
His spot in City’s first-team XI, however, was lost towards the end of the season as Edin Dzeko became Manuel Pellegrini’s first-choice striker, and his lack of game time arguably cost him a place in Spain’s World Cup squad.
With Man City expected to bolster their ranks once again this summer, Alvaro Negredo may just be tempted to make a quick return to La Liga should Atletico make a formal bid.
The Croatian international has been linked with a move away from Bayern Munich this summer, as his relationship with boss Pep Guardiola is reported to be damaged.
Besides, with an offer tempting enough, the Bundesliga champions might be willing to sell as summer signing Robert Lewandowski is expected to be the German’s number one striker next season.
Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca has had a fine debut season in La Liga, scoring 14 goals in 27 league appearances for the club.
The Colombian international has interest from elsewhere, but with Alberto Moreno and Ivan Rakitic expected to leave, it is unlikely that Sevilla would be willing to sell him too unless they receive an offer they simply can’t refuse.
The former Jaguares de Chiapas striker has had yet another goalscoring campaign at Porto, and he was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal during the January transfer window.
With Porto experiencing a financial crisis and players suffering from confidence after finishing the season trophy-less, Jackson Martinez could be allowed to leave this summer and Atletico Madrid would represent a fine choice.
