Strootman’s agent says no to Manchester United

The chances of Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman joining Manchester United this summer seem to have been dealt a blow.

The agent of Dutch international Kevin Strootman has dismissed rumours that his client could join Manchester United.

Strootman was central to Roma's excellent first half of the season in Serie A, but he suffered a cruciate injury that ruled him out of the World Cup.

The talented midfielder has been frequently tipped to join Manchester United, who are said to be considering a mammoth bid, but that could be futile.

"Could Louis van Gaal be interested in him? Possibly but he is a Roma player and has had a fantastic season," agent Chiel Dekker told the Guardian.

"There's been nothing between Roma and Manchester United or between Strootman and van Gaal.

"They both respect each other but that doesn't mean anything regarding Manchester United.

"Roma don't want to sell him and it would be difficult to leave a fantastic club that have supported him through his injury.

"Kevin is happy where he is and wants to stay and play in the Champions League next season. He should be back in Autumn."
