Sony Pictures are in talks with Jordan Vogt-Roberts to direct Solid Snake’s cinematic outing
In an exclusive report on Deadline it’s been revealed that the Metal Gear Solid movie is coming closer to fruition as Sony enter early talks with Jordan Vogt-Roberts to direct the film. A film adaptation of the PlayStation classic has been in the pipeline since 2006, during which time wranglings between game creator Hideo Kojima and Sony Pictures Entertainment have held up the project with Deadline stating, "it just took so long for the game creators and the studio to find themselves on the same page in how to tell the story of protagonist Solid Snake.”
It appears now that an agreement has been reached over Snake’s portrayal as a director is being approached. Vogt-Roberts who previously directed The Kings Of Summer is now being courted by Sony. The film is set to be produced by Avi Arad, founder of Marvel Studios with former New Line president Michael De Luca steering the movie. It has also been rumoured that Christian Bale could be in the running to play Snake.
Metal Gear Solid stands to join a long line of games to get remade into films that on the whole have never really been that great. Other current game to film projects include Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell. Halo and Bioshock films have also been talked about but show less signs of happening at this time.
What do you make of the news? Is a Metal Gear Solid film something you’d like to see? Who do you think should play Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid movie?
