'Ozil the magician's powers have disappeared' - German press worry about Arsenal star

Arsenal playmaker continues to worry the German media.

Fans booed as Mesut Ozil trudged off in Moenchengladbach against Cameroon, after a low-key performance in which he missed a gilt-edged opportunity.

Jerome Boateng asked supporters subsequently to go easy on the Arsenal star, but his nation's media do not seem to have got the message.

A report on German website Sport1, asks if the Mesut Ozil of 2014 is really the same player he was even a year ago, let alone the one who dazzled at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Ozil's reputation as a player with magic in his boots who can destroy the opposition just as he famously did to Gareth Barry and England four years ago remains, but with only 35-year-old Miroslav Klose as a striker, there are fears Germany's chances rest with the Arsenal star recapturing his best form.

The article states: "From the gold bars of talent, with the national team earlier so often enraptured fans, not even a few grains of gold are currently visible.

"The magician is disenchanted. Not even for the poisoned compliment 'part-time magician', it would have been enough on Sunday night.

"In the big games, in the encounter with the big rivals it radiates rare. When playing between Arsenal and Bayern he did not convince in the Champions League."

It went onto state, "At the same time he (Jogi Low) will not be able to avoid are working on a plan B."

Germany face minnows Armenia on Friday night, hoping to rack up a cricket score. Ahead of previous tournaments they have organised friendlies with low ranked opposition to help the players get their confidence up.

If Ozil fails to shine in this one, perhaps then the Germans will really begin to panic.
