We provide details on Newcastle's ambitious double-swoop in Spain and the young PSG midfielder they are hoping to sign. We also cover the striker who wants to become Sunderland's main-man next season, the midfielder they are trying to sign and Middlesbrough's chase of Kevin Doyle

We take a look at the biggest stories involving the football clubs in the north of England that have broken over the last 24 hours.

1) Newcastle United looking to land a Spanish double

Newcastle are hoping to sign the Spanish pair of Jonathan Soriano and Ayoze Perez, as Alan Pardew looks to equip his squad for the upcoming season, according to The Journal.

Perez is likely to sign for the club in the near future, with the 20-year-old being available on the cheap as he is now into the final 12 months of his contract.

The youngster has been playing in Spanish Segunda division with Tenerife and is likely to come in as back-up.

Meanwhile, the Toon Army are also hoping to bring in the rather more expensive transfer of Soriano.

The Red Bull striker could cost the club more than £8 million to sign, but he is a quality player and it would certainly be a good addition to the squad.

2) Newcastle locked in battle for PSG starlet

Newcastle United, Roma and Juventus are all hoping to sign highly rated PSG prospect Kingsley Coman, reports in Italy suggest.

Coman has already featured in PSG’s first-team on two occasions and is known to be one the club have identified as a potential star in the future, but he is yet to sign a professional contract at PSG and that has alerted the likes of Newcastle to try and capitalise.

3) Conor Wickham sets ambitious target for next season

Conor Wickham, whose form played a major part in keeping Sunderland a Premier League club last season, has said that he is determined to become the club’s main-man next season.

The powerful front-man scored five goals towards the back end of the last campaign and he is now hoping to carry that form into next season.

“The aim is to be the main striker next season,” he said to the Sunderland Echo.

“I won't think about it until I start doing my own training. I'll take a break, switch off, relax and have a bit of chill-out time.

“Then I'll start doing my training and start thinking about it. I'll make sure I do the right training and make sure I put myself in the manager's thoughts when we come back.”

4) Sunderland hope to sign Ever Banega

The Telegraph are reporting that The Black Cats are interested in signing Valencia midfielder Ever Banega, as Jack Colback looks set to complete a move to Newcastle.

Gus Poyet views the Banega as an ideal replacement for the outgoing midfielder and will bid £8 million to bring him to the Stadium of Light.

5) Middesbrough are interested in signing Kevin Doyle

According to the Gazette, Middlesbrough are hoping to add Kevin Doyle to their striking ranks next season.

'Boro struggled for goals last campaign and it is thought that Aitor Karanka has identified the Wolves man as one of his targets this summer as a result.

Doyle spent the second-half of last season on loan at QPR, but has now returned to Wolves with the newly promoted Championship club keen to off-load him on a more permanent basis this summer.
