A new ranking system compiled by CIES Football Observatory shows the top 20 most expensive players in the world.
The ranking system has taken into account a player's talent, age, length of contract, position, international experience and the level at which they are playing. All of the above are considered to then produce a real world market value for the players.
Unsurprisingly the top two places are filled by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. According to the study the Barcelona and Argentina star is worth an incredible £161.5 million whilst Ronaldo is worth a paltry £85.2 million in comparison.
Rather astoundingly the world record transfer fee holder, Gareth Bale is only considered to be worth £47.1 million which would mean Real Madrid over paid by over £30 million for the Welshman.
The top twenty players are shown below and two of Liverpool's stars of the season Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge make the cut as would be expected, however another also features which shows how far he has progressed within the last 12 months.
Raheem Sterling is valued at £31.2 million, more than Sturridge, more than Wayne Rooney, whilst Ross Barkley is just one place behind him. That will surely get them talking at the England training camp in Miami if they cast their eyes over the list.
Of course the value of Sterling shouldn't be that surprising when you take into consideration how far he has progressed whilst only being 19-years-old. At the last World Cup, Raheem was still a year away from taking his GCSE's but now he will be on the way to Brazil hoping to make a big impact for his country.
He established himself in the Liverpool team at the end of last season, and will surely do the same for England in the coming years. He looks to be a big player at Anfield and has already shown he links up well with Sturridge and Suarez. His raw talent is clear for all to see, and he will be able to improve much more.
Sterling scored nine goals in the Premier League last season and caused havoc for many defences. Now classed as the 15th most valuable player in Europe this summer, Liverpool fans will be looking forward to seeing the very best of the winger.
