It would be amazing if Van Gaal signs Daley Blind for Manchester United

Louis van Gaal can turn back the clock and raid old side Ajax for the son of one of his former stars, to re-energise his Manchester United team.

Louis van Gaal is hoping Manchester United can rubber-stamp his legacy as one of Europe's greatest football managers of the past 20 years, and not ruin it.

By time we reach May 2015, it will be two decades exactly since he first won the Champions League with Ajax, a feat he has never been able to repeat.

He will not get the opportunity to do so next season with United who did not qualify for European competition under David Moyes.

At 62, Van Gaal is not in for the long haul, but will have an estimated three years at least to try and leave a lasting legacy at the club, and for his own career.

To do that the Dutchman has been linked with signing several players, but one lesser known but very promising star stands out.

That is Ajax's Daley Blind.

For those unfamiliar with Blind's heritage, his father is Danny Blind, a veteran of Van Gaal's 1995 Champions League winning side.

The Mail linked the Red Devils with making a move for Blind at the end of last month, who is a member of the Netherland international squad at the World Cup.

Following in his dad's footsteps at Ajax, he has earned his spot with the national team, and was among the best players in the Eredivisie last year.

His season saw him undergo a transformation under manager Ronald de Boer, converting from left-back to defensive midfield, just like Germany and Bayern Munich's Philip Lahm.

In truth both positions are ones where United need reinforcements, and if Van Gaal considers him good enough for Holland there is a strong chance he will view the 24-year-old as an asset for Manchester United.

Should he pursue a deal after the World Cup, Blind's signature would be a momentous one, quite amazing in fact considering Van Gaal's successful history with his father at Ajax.

The legacy of that side lives on in two decades. Van Gaal will hope he can leave a similar impression at Old Trafford, and Blind may be a key part of helping him do that.
