How Guardiola could get one over on Mourinho with £30m transfer

Pep Guardiola could get one over on Chelsea with a deal for Cesc Fabregas.

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola may be preparing to get one over on old enemy Jose Mourinho.

The German champions have emerged as a potential destination for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, with Guardiola reportedly keen to add him to his squad ahead of next season.

Several reports have pointed in Chelsea’s direction, suggesting that the Blues are the favourites to sign the Spaniard from Barca, who want to free up cash to go after their own targets.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Guardiola had got one over on an English club looking to sign a Barcelona midfielder.

Guardiola snapped up Thiago for Bayern back when Manchester United were trying to do a deal for the midfielder following Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to retire as United’s boss.

Guardiola also has the benefit of being able to draw on his Barcelona contacts, whom he maintains a positive relationship with from his successful spell in charge of the team.

The fact that in signing Fabregas, Guardiola would get one over on Mourinho will just make things a little sweeter for the Spanish coach.

Their feud bubbled up nicely during the days when the pair were at odds in La Liga with Guardiola at Barca and Mourinho in charge at Real Madrid.

The Super Cup match last season between Bayern Munich and Chelsea showed that there’s still a little bit of niggle between the two bosses.

What Mourinho has working in his favour is Fabregas’ desire to come back into English football.

He’s a clear admirer of the Premier League and while he may have favoured a move back to Arsenal, the Gunners have reportedly ruled themselves out which frees Chelsea to try and do a deal.

Both clubs represent strong propositions for Fabregas.

Bayern arguably have a greater chance of domestic dominance but Chelsea’s recent record in European football has been impressive and Blues fans should still be confident that they will get their man.
