Former Chelsea star Juan Mata has backed Diego Costa to succeed in the Premier League.
The pair are currently Spain international teammates, but it appears they will be opponents in England's top flight next season.
Speaking at a press conference on international duty, the Manchester United playmaker was keen not to jump the gun and refer to a Chelsea - Costa deal as being done, but explained why the Atletico forward will be a success in England.
"I don't know what he is going to do, but I think he would be a good forward in English football. He's powerful, physically very strong.
"In English football he should have success. He's currently a player for Atletico, so I believe the player deserves that respect at least at this moment."
Mata knows exactly the situation Costa will go into at Chelsea, and it is fair to wonder just how much he fears what a force Jose Mourinho's side will be next season.
A report in The Guardian yesterday stated Costa has undergone his medical with Chelsea officials, and a deal may be formalised within days.
