Spurs attempt to hijack Liverpool target Alberto Moreno - Report

Alberto Moreno playing for Sevilla

Tottenham have joined the race to sign the highly-rated left-back but the Reds remain in pole position to clinch his signature.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Sevilla's Alberto Moreno is the subject of a £14million pound offer from Tottenham with Roberto Soldado on loan as part of the deal.

Moreno has been courting much interest across Europe with the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea believed to have also sat up and taken notice.

Liverpool appeared to be leading the race to capture the player but new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to make him his first signing after being given the green light.

Although Sevilla will welcome a bidding war to drive the price up for Moreno, the exciting 21-year-old left back, who narrowly missed out on the final 23 man squad for Spain at the World Cup, will prefer Champions League football.

As it is Liverpool and not Tottenham can offer this and therefore remain the favourites to land Moreno.

Soldado's inclusion in the deal raises question marks over his future at White Hart Lane where a poor first season in England could see him now surplus to requirements by Pochettino.

Liverpool fans will be aghast at the news that Spurs have tried to muscle in yet again on one of their targets after the sagas involving Clint Dempsey, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Willian. Though on those occasions they did not have the lure of Champions League football.

Left-back has been a long-standing problem position for both Liverpool and Tottenham and it is unsurprising to find both teams coveting a player that could well solve this for years to come.
