Winger committed to PSG – good news for Chelsea, bad for Manchester United?

Lucas Moura says that he will continue to play for Paris Saint-Germain.

Lucas Moura may have been left out of Brazil’s 23-man World Cup squad, but his talent is undeniable.

A tricky winger with pace and lots of potential, the 21-year-old joined Paris Saint-Germain from Sao Paulo in January 2013. He was supposed to be the ‘next big thing’ in football and PSG were said to have pulled off a real coup, having fended off strong challengers from some of other top European clubs.

However, Lucas’ progress in the French capital has not been as he would wanted. Finding himself surrounded by an array of stars in a very strong squad, the youngster could make only 18 Ligue 1 starts under coach Laurent Blanc last season.

Lucas is part of PSG’s long-term project, as they are now seeking instant success in the Champions League. Moreover, Blanc was appointed the club’s coach only last summer, and he was going to play it safe by starting the experienced players.

Lucas understands all that and also knows that given his age, he will have to be patience if he wants to make a name for himself in Paris.

‘I was not always starting this season, but I played in the important matches and I scored decisive goals’, Le Parisien quotes him as saying. ‘We have won three titles and I consider that I have plentifully participated. I am part of this adventure, this fantastic club, with an ambitious generation’.

There have been suggestions that Manchester United should be looking to sign Lucas in order to reinforce their wide areas. However, the Brazilian’s comments make it clear that he has no intention of leaving PSG. After all, while the Red Devils are going through a rebuilding phase and cannot offer Champions League football, the Parisian giants are set to launch yet another assault on European football's biggest competition.

However, Lucas’ comments will come as good news for Chelsea. Reports have persisted that PSG will eventually make an offer for Eden Hazard this summer. Having prised away David Luiz from Chelsea for £40 million, the Ligue 1 champions are said to be keen on making yet another big bid, this time for the Belgian winger. However, now that Lucas has committed his future to the Ligue 1 champions, PSG could just continue to mould him into their very own Hazard.
