Sporting Lisbon have taken another step to reinforce their midfield, by moving to sign Spanish midfield prospect Oriol Rosell.
The 21-year-old former Barcelona academy star has been playing the past two seasons in Major League Soccer, impressing with Sporting Kansas City .
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reported that Rosell has been in Lisbon for a medical, with the transfer set to be completed imminently.
Rosell is the second central midfielder Sporting have signed over the past month, following Bulgarian star Simeon Slavchev from Litex Lovech.
While Slavchev's arrival indicated in the first instance Sporting are planning for life without midfield star William Carvalho, Rosell's is even further indication.
A defensive midfielder, he is even more of a natural fit to replace Carvalho in the side, who has been strongly linked with a link away from the Primeira Liga runners-up.
The People newspaper claimed in March that Manchester United had agreed a deal to sign the midfielder this summer at around £35 million.
Monaco have also been linked, thanks to Leandro Jardim, his coach at Sporting last season, making the switch to the Ligue 1 challengers.
The midfielder recently stated he would be content to remain under contract in Lisbon and wouldn't be pushing for a move, but it appears his side are planning for the eventuality he moves on in case United or Monaco meet their valuation.
