Arsenal star Mesut Ozil shouldn't start for Germany at the World Cup according to some fans who responded to a Twitter campaign by a German newspaper.
German newspaper Sport Bild has asked German fans to vote for their starting elevens for the team’s first World Cup game against the dangerous Portugal and there’s a surprise exclusion.
Several fans chose to snub Arsenal star Mesut Ozil after his disappointing performance in the friendly draw against Cameroon last weekend.
Ozil has been fighting hard to try and force his way back to his best form, after his performances dipped over the second half of last season with the Gunners.
Germany boss Jorgi Low has revealed he’s got no fears over Ozil’s form heading into the major tournament, and expects the midfielder to produce his very best under the pressure of playing in Brazil.
Bayern Munich stars Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze appear regularly in selected midfields alongside Borussia Dortmund icon Marco Reus, one of the most consistent German players over the last couple of years.
Fortunately for Germany, they have so many good alternative midfield options and that seems to have prompted fans to not think twice about excluding Arsenal’s midfield maestro in a hashtag (#MeineElf) campaign by Sport Bild on Twitter.
Here are some of the sides German fans want to see starting at the World Cup.
