Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has joined Instagram, and in his first post he said he was ‘delighted’ that Rickie Lambert will join up with him at Anfield next season.
Lambert was officially confirmed as a Liverpool player yesterday, joining the club from Southampton on a deal said to be worth £4m.
Gerrard, who will captain England at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, was photographed with Lambert and team-mate Daniel Sturridge as England prepare for their friendly against Ecuador in Miami tomorrow.
They have a further friendly against Honduras on Saturday before they fly to Brazil, where they kick off their campaign against Italy in Manaus on June 14.
The message read: “Hello to everyone from Miami, my first official Instagram post. Nice to share it with fellow Reds @dstudge and Rickie Lambert, I'm delighted he'll be with us next season. Also happy 122nd birthday to LFC!”
Whilst hoping he and his team-mates can go as far as they can in this summer’s World Cup, Gerrard will hope that next season Sturridge and Lambert can have their hand in firing Liverpool to success in the Premier League after last season’s second place finish. The Reds will also be hoping for a strong Champions League campaign, a competition they will participate in for the first time since 2009.
The trio are not the only Liverpool representatives in this England squad as Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Glen Johnson were all selected by Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson.
