Liverpool look set to miss out on a potential summer bargain as out-of-contract Paris Saint-Germain winger Jeremy Menez was seen talking to Fillipo Inzaghi and Adriano Galliani on Tuesday in Ibiza.
‘It shows the commitment they have to recruit,’ said the source close to the player.
‘Jeremy was very sensitive to the interest of Milan and the fact that it took so little time to start talks was very important, especially since Jeremy is emotional.
‘He appreciates that shows him they want him.’
Three years after leaving Italian side Roma for Paris Saint-Germain, the 27-year-old French winger may look to return to his old stomping ground to rebuild his reputation after falling out of favour at the Parisian club.
He featured just 16 times in the league for PSG last season and was a notable cut from Didier Deschamps World Cup squad, which for a player with 24-caps to his name, more than five of the selected French midfielders, will be a big disappointment.
Nevertheless, the move by Liverpool not to act quicker for the French winger could be seen as disappointing to some fans, who would have seen the out-of-contract winger as one of the summer’s biggest bargains. In fact, if you look at his statistics from the previous season, 2012/13, he would have, on paper, looked to be an excellent signing.
In his 37 appearances during that season, in both the Ligue 1 and Champions League competition, he scored seven and assisted nine. A record which, in my opinion, proves he would have been a very shrewd signing by Rodgers and Liverpool.
